NextGen at the University of Houston is a non-partisan, student-led organization dedicated to empowering young voters and fostering a culture of civic engagement on campus. We are the official UH chapter of NextGen America, the nation’s largest youth voting organization.
Founded in 2025 by a group of students passionate about political participation and representation, we aim to educate, register, and mobilize UH students to actively engage in the democratic process.
NextGenUH strives to educate, register, and mobilize young people to engage in the democratic process and make the changes our country needs. We seek to provide students at the University of Houston with the opportunity to get involved with local, state, and national civic engagement in a non-partisan manner where all people are welcome, regardless of political positions.

"Politics has always been something I’ve been deeply passionate about—whether it was learning about how policies shape our communities or watching how young people show up to lead real change. But it wasn’t until I completed the Leaders Lab program with NextGen America that I truly understood the power and responsibility that comes with being an engaged, informed voter. That experience sparked something in me. It showed me that civic engagement doesn’t have to be intimidating—it can be empowering, community-driven, and even fun.
I co-founded NextGen UH because I wanted to create a space on campus where students feel supported, informed, and inspired to use their voices. My goal has always been to make civic participation more accessible—to help students realize that they don’t have to wait to make a difference. They can start right here, right now, at the University of Houston."
"Empowering others and ensuring all voices are valued has always been important to me. It’s why I chose to pursue a degree in Political Science and why I plan to pursue a career in law. There is strength in diversity, and when all voices are equally heard, we become a strong and unified community unlike any other. NextGen UH provides me with the opportunity to help students see how much their voices matter and encourage them to express their opinions. At the end of the day, regardless of titles or status, each vote holds the same weight. Politics holds a lot of power, and with that comes division. I want people to understand that it’s okay to have different opinions, but no matter what, we are all on the same side. Together.
When Olivia told me about NextGen and asked if I’d be interested in helping co-found the organization, it was a no-brainer. Getting young students registered to vote and informing them about real-world issues that impact their lives felt like an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. We all have the right to voice our opinions and participate in civic engagement, and I want to encourage as many young adults as possible to take advantage of that right to shape a community they can be proud of. NextGen UH is a place for all people, come join us and help shape the future you want to see."
